Congress leader Sharmishtha Mukherjee on Sunday called for the instalment of gender sensitisation camps at all levels to avoid incidences of women abuse and criticised the Punjab Government for making 'insensitive' statements.

"It is really sad that every day we hear about such incidents where women are being raped, molested and as a society we should seriously consider gender sensitization camps at every level, starting from the government to absolutely beginning school curriculum and in families. Workshops for the same should go on and strict action should be taken by the state when incidents of such kind happen, to stop people from committing such crimes," Mukherjee said.

"Calling such an incident 'God's will' is extremely insensitive and I cannot understand how any mature person make such a statement, leave aside be a senior politician," she added.

The Congress leader also alleged that the state government had done nothing to prevent such crimes from happening.

"First, you create a situation like this and employ people who cancommit such a crime and already the crime has been done, so what haveyou done to prevent that?" she said.

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal had on Saturday issued an order to ban all Orbit buses, which is co-owned by him, withimmediate effect, after facing extreme criticism.

A 13-year-old girl died after she and her mother were allegedly pushed off a moving bus for resisting a molestation bid on April 29 in Moga, Punjab.

Local residents rushed the two to a nearby hospital where the girl was pronounced dead.

The incident took place on a highway connecting Moga and Bathinda.
