More than 100 people have died and an equal number of people have been reportedly injured after the strongest storm on record slammed into the central Philippines on Friday with a wind speed as high as 380 kilometers per hour.
Deputy Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, Captain John Andrews, confirmed that the information about the deaths was relayed to him by his staff in Tacloban on Leyte Island, Huffington Post reports.
Most of the power lines and communications were knocked out a day after the typhoon Haiyan devastated the central region of Philippines, the report added.
According to the report, nearly 750,000 people were forced to flee their homes and damage was believed to be extensive as the storm ripped roofs off houses and triggered landslides that blocked roads.
