Mohammed Morsi, the ousted Egyptian president and 24 others have been charged for insulting the judiciary for allegedly making disrespectful comments in the media.
Several Islamists and top activists including Alaa Abdel Fattah who led the revolt against dictator Hosni Mubarak in 2011 are among the others who will face trial for making comments that showed "disrespect and hatred for the courts and the judiciary",
While Morsi is facing detention for his participation in an illegal protest in November, it remains unclear whether recent charges will be the fourth set of proceedings against him, post his exile, News 24 reported.
The latest charges have been leveled against Morsi following his speech where he accused a judge of electoral fraud during 2005 vote.
Morsi is currently on trial for orchestrating mass killings of protestors outside the presidential palace in December 2012.
