Newly crowned World No.1 Andy Murray on Sunday battled past American John Isner to claim his maiden title at the BNP Paribas Masters here.

The Briton defeated Isner 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-4 in a thrilling contest that lasted for two-hour and 18-minutes.

The World No. 1 claimed his eighth tour-level crown of the year and 43rd in total.

He notched a 14th ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title and joins Tim Henman (2003) and Greg Rusedski (1998) as British winners in Paris, reports atpworldtour.com

It was confirmed that Murray would leapfrog long-time No.1 Novak Djokovic when Milos Raonic pulled out of his semi-final against the Wimbledon and Olympic champion on Saturday.

Murray now moves on to next week's ATP World Tour Finals in London where he will aim to finish off his remarkable season in style and be crowned the end of year best player.
