A Tupac Shakur-inspired rap musical 'Holler If Ya Hear Me,' is under production in a New York workshop and is aspiring to be a part of the Broadway 2013-14 season.

The show will include Shakur's music and a book by Todd Kreidler, an associate director on the revival of "Fences," the New York Daily News reported.

The story, which follows the struggles of two childhood pals and their extended families, is set in the present in an unnamed midwestern industrial city.

The director of "A Raisin in the Sun," a Broadway production, Kenny Leon, will direct the show.

The rapper, who sold 75 million albums, died aged 25 in 1996 in Las Vegas.
