Nadal rules out chances of winning calendar Slam

US Open champion Rafael Nadal has reportedly ruled out a calendar year Grand Slam by winning all four majors in the same year, which have been achieved by only two men in the sport's history.

The Spanish second-seed, who clinched his second US Open, and his 13th career major, with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Novak Djokovic, completed a career Grand Slam in New York in 2010.

However, Sport24 reports that winning all four majors in the same year has only been achieved by Don Budge (1938) and Rod Laver (1962 and 1969).

Stating that he feels that it would be impossible for him to win all four Grand Slams in a single year, Nadal, who now has eight French Opens, two Wimbledon, two US Open and an Australian title amongst his 60 career crowns, said that to win a tournament like the US Open means that a player has to face the likes of Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Djokovic and David Ferrer all the time.

According to Nadal, it will be impossible to be 100 percent successful in every tournament as the afore-mentioned players do not generally lose in the early rounds, adding that if a player's level is a little bit lower, he will lose against these players.

Along with a seven-month injury layoff which saw him miss the 2012 US Open as well as the London Olympics and the Australian Open this year, the report said that Nadal saw a shock first-round loss at Wimbledon despite having ten titles since his comeback, a 60-3 match record and winning all 22 matches he has played on hard courts.

Stating that he had never thought of competing for what he had achieved this year, Nadal, whose 13th Grand Slam title puts him four behind the record of 17 held by Federer, also said that a player needs luck to be where he (Nadal) is today.
