Union Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu has extended the central government's support to transform Mumbai into a global financial hub.

The Maharashtra Government had organised a 'Mumbai Next Summit', where industry titans like Tata chairman Cyrus Mistry and Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, along with Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha and actor Amitabh Bachchan among others discussed Mumbai's future.

'Mumbai Next' is an initiative of state government to transform the country's financial capital into a global financial and entertainment centre.

"I will extend all support for affordable housing, all support for sanitation, extend all support for solid waste management, rain water harvesting, and extend all support for good public transport because more and more public transport, more luxury cars make road congested and creates problem for the people," said Naidu.

Naidu has asked the Maharashtra Government to focus on basics amenities.

"Drinking water, sanitation, solid waste management, housing for the poor's, slum redevelopment, affordable housing and then public transport, these are the basic things which are required to make Mumbai life more comfortable," said Naidu.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a vision of building 100 'Smart Cities'. He has sought to drum up foreign direct investment with the 'Make in India' initiative.
