Nepali Congress and UDMF engage in meeting as time looms

Kathmandu [Nepal], Feb.6 (ANI): Nepal's largest party the Nepali Congress and United Madhesi Democratic Front leaders held discussion over the amendment and local elections on Sunday.

The meeting which was held in NC Congress residence in Budhanilkantha had talks over the issue of passing amendment bill tabled in the parliament and holding the local election.

"Two should be taken forward simultaneously. The issue of constitution amendment to be taken forward and creating favorable environment for holding the election were discussed. But today we focused on constitution amendment," Krishna Prasad Sitaula, leader of Nepali Congress briefed media after the meeting concluded.

Nepali Congress leaders held meeting soon after the meeting with UDMF concluded and talked over the pertaining issues, the same day.

With the six months already passed and the formation of the new government in support of disgruntled UDMF the Maoist Center led government has failed to amend the constitution which they have promised to do before. Though the amendment proposal is tabled in the constitution it is not able to go forward.

With the engagement of UDMF and the Nepali Congress the speculation of government change has increased.

"We had discussions and came to the result that we all should go forward together to pass the amendment bill and go forward," Laxman Lal Karna of Sadhvawana Party informed media after holding talks with NC leaders.

The Prachanda or Pushpa Kamal Dahal led government formed 6 months before has failed to address the demands made by UDMF which has ushered frustration among the Madhesi leadership.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has been promising to amendment constitution while in talk with the disgruntled parties and promise to hold election with the opposition. This had increased the frustration among the disgruntled parties. Some of the MP's of supporting Party Nepali Congress also have criticized the government for delay in announcement of election date.

With the engagement of Nepali Congress and UDMF leaders the chance of change in the government has become strong. Sources also has claimed that the interaction between the Opposition (CPN-UML) leader KP Sharma Oli and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has increased. The two leaders has focused their talks on change in Prime Minister Ship and going to polls soon addressing demands of disgruntled parties.
