New Yahoo News chief editor promises 'major expansion' to site

Yahoo News's new editor-in-chief, who comes from The New York Times, has reportedly promised a 'major expansion' to the website's news gathering unit.

Deputy news editor of The New York Times, Megan Liberman took the position at the US internet giant and will bring in new voices and defining features for the website.

Yahoo, in its statement said that Liberman would focus primarily on original reporting, social news gathering, video and live events coverage, News24 reports.

Vice president of Yahoo News and Finance, Robertson Barrett said that Liberman is a dynamic addition to the Yahoo News team adding that she is a natural fit to led editorial for the world's news site and will help take Yahoo News to the next level.

The report added that Liberman has previously worked as deputy editor of the NYT's magazine, where she was responsible for digital features and strategy and has also directed the magazine's political coverage, and launched the Times's parenting blog, Motherlode.
