Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has ruled out the possibility of freeing Boko Haram prisoners in exchange for the release of more than 200 kidnapped schoolgirls, a British official has said.

Mark Simmonds, Britain's top official for Africa, said he had raised the issue with Jonathan during a meeting in Abuja.

According to news24, Simmonds was in Nigeria for talks about the international rescue mission.

Simmonds added that he did discuss the issue with the president and he made it very clear that there will be no negotiation with Boko Haram that involves a swap of abducted schoolgirls for prisoners, the report added.
