Nigerian Ambassador to India, Ndubuisi Vitus Amaku on Wednesday assured that the Nigerian Embassy would provide all assistance in conducting investigations into the death of his country's national in Goa.

"As I said earlier, we are handling it, we are going to solve this problem, but you have to appreciate that bilateral relations are normally governed by reciprocity, as you know mutual respect for each other's interests," he said.

Earlier on October 31, a Nigerian was found dead with stab wounds in Mapusa town of Panaji.

This incident triggered protests by Nigerians in Goa, where they blocked roads and clashed with the police and the locals.

Amaku also said that safety of Nigerian nationals living in any part of the world is of utmost importance.

"Our people who are in this country must have a sense of safety and security, that's very important, and also Indians who are in Nigeria should feel a sense of security. That's all we need. Everybody must feel safe wherever he or she is whether Nigerian or Indian. We had very long years tradition of bilateral relations," he added.

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said the murder charges would be investigated, while 53 Nigerians had been detained for allegedly attacking the police.
