The Congress Party on Monday said that their protest is against the Centre's attack on white money and for creating hardship for the common people.

Congress leader P.C. Chacko told ANI, "The Prime Minister is an expert in misleading the people because he is now calling for a Bharat Bandh, no political party has called for any Bharat Bandh. If he is taking a step against black money, we said that any step taken by the government to curb black money we will support that. But we don't think that now the step he has taken is going to eliminate black money as it is going to create trouble and hardship to the common people only."

"Prime Minister's step is not attacking black money but it is attacking the white money. The legitimate hard earned money of the ordinary people which they have deposited in the bank there is a restriction not to withdraw that. This action is against the ordinary people, the common man , artisans, daily wage owners and all this people are suffering. Last 20 days people are standing in the queue,. That is the only reason we say that we are protesting and opposing this," he added.

Addressing a rally in Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said while he had called for an end to corruption and black money, the opposition was rooting for the 'Bharat bandh'.

"The government is working to end the flow of black money and corruption but they (opposition) are talking about Bharat bandh (shutdown)," Modi said.

However, parties like the Congress, Trinamool Congress and Aam Aadmi Party have said they do not support a bandh because of the huge cost involved. But they will continue their protests in Parliament and on the streets.
