No result in fourth India-Australia one-dayer as rain plays spoilsport

The fourth ODI between India and Australia in the seven match series was abandoned due to rain after the visitors made 295-8 in their 50 overs in Ranchi.

According to News.com.au, George Bailey and Glenn Maxwell both made scores in the 90's, but it was rain that proved the main opposition to Australia's charge in the fourth ODI in Ranchi.

While he fell an agonising eight runs short of a maiden international ton, Maxwell did manage to match David Warner's amazing feat from 2011 by clearing the boundary rope with a switch-hit against India, the report said.

The heavy downpour lasted roughly 45 minutes, but the damage had been done and play was unable to resume despite the best efforts of ground staff, the report added.

The result means Australia retain a 2-1 series lead, but ends any hope of them being world No.1 by the end of the seven games, the report further said.

The home side's fielding cost them badly; dropping six catches including Bailey (98 off 94) twice and Maxwell (92 off 77) once - and both batsmen made India pay, according to the report.

23-year-old Shami Ahmed cleaned up Australia's top three inside the first ten overs, bowling a tight line outside off-stump while getting the ball to nip back in the most bowler-friendly conditions of the tour to date, the report mentioned.
