No vehicle would be challaned during 'dry run': Delhi Govt.

Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai on Wednesday asserted that the 'dry run' conducted by the government on December 31 was only to create awareness of the 'Odd-Even' formula, adding that no vehicle would be challaned and there would be no effect on the public.

"Police has been a part of the Coordination Committee of the Odd-Even formula put forward by us. But there were some misunderstandings which were cleared in the meeting with the Delhi Police Commissioner yesterday. We also told him about the complete plan as to what would be the role of civil defence, SDM, transport enforcement wing and Delhi Police. We have prepared a full action plan," Rai told ANI.

"Tomorrow between 9-11 a.m., there would be a coordination trial of all the teams. In the coordination trial run, it would be decided as to where would the civil defence, traffic police teams and SDMs teams would be deployed. The public won't face disruptions during this period. No vehicle would be challaned. Volunteers would be there to create awareness among the public," he added.

Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi yesterday met Rai at the Delhi Secretariat to discuss various issues concerning the 'Odd-Even' formula and develop consensus on the same.

Rai had said that the Delhi Metro would also increase its frequency from two thousand in a day to over three thousand to meet the extra rush of the passengers.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party said its volunteers would help implement the scheme within the framework of law.

The Delhi Police Commissioner had earlier warned the AAP volunteers against any form of vigilantism, saying the volunteers should assist and act as per law while police enforce the scheme.

The scheme, which will be implemented for 15 days, has been proposed to curb pollution in the national capital by restricting movement of private vehicles based on their registration numbers.
