Rubbishing Pakistan's claim that India is building a 'secret nuclear city', the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday said it aims to deflect attention from the real issue of terrorism.
"Pakistan's claim of India's secret nuclear city is baseless. This aims to deflect attention from real issue of terrorism," MEA official spokesperson Vikas Swarup told the media.
Pakistan's Foreign Office had earlier claimed that India has accumulated a stockpile of nuclear weapons which has the potential to undermine the strategic balance of power in the South Asian region.
The Dawn quoted Foreign Office (FO) spokesman Nafees Zakaria as claiming that "India has also built a secret nuclear city", and has been conducting tests on intercontinental missiles.
However, he followed up this charge against New Delhi by saying that "Pakistan remains committed to the principles of peaceful existence with all of its neighbours, including India."
Earlier this week, Pakistan said it wants India to bring its entire civilian nuclear programme under the safeguards laid out by the International Atomic Energy Commission (IAEC).
