Pak wants peaceful, stable Afghanistan

Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria has said that Islamabad wants peace and stability in Afghanistan and will continue its peace efforts from the platform of Quadrilateral Coordination Group.

Radio Pakistan quoted Zakaria as saying that anti-peace forces are not happy with Pakistan-Afghanistan border management and they do not want better monitoring and security system on frontiers.

He said effective border management between Pakistan and Afghanistan will curb terrorism in the region and restore peace in the region.

Zakaria's remarks comes as it was reported that 50 Afghan security personnel were killed and another 100 injured as Pakistan forces retaliated to unprovoked firing by Afghan border forces on security personnel in Balochistan's Chaman area last week.

Inspector General Frontier Corps Balochistan Maj Gen. Nadeem Anjum said, "We are not happy over their losses since they are our Muslim brothers."

The attack forced evacuation in Killi Luqman, Killi Jahangir and Badshah Adda Kahol as Chaman Border was shut down and security ramped up in Quetta and parts of Balochistan.

Southern Command Commander Lt. Gen. Aamir Riaz termed the cross-border attack as shameful.

Pakistani and Afghanistan military commanders agreed to carry out a geological survey of the border area.

However, Afghanistan has rejected claims that Pakistani security forces killed 50 Afghan soldiers in retaliation to the Chaman cross-border attack.

Afghanistan's Ambassador to Pakistan Omar Zakhilwal on Monday dismissed claims, saying that only two Afghan soldiers were slain and seven others injured.

However, the envoy added that even two lives are too many for the country.
