During his visit to Colombo, Sri Lanka, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will witness the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) - one for the promotion of bilateral trade and the second for providing training services between the two countries.
The governments of the two countries are keen to increase the volume of trade to one billion dollars from the current 350 million dollars, reports the Lanka Page web site.
The first agreement will be signed by representatives of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan and the Sri Lankan Export Development Board.
The second MoU will be signed by representatives of the Pakistan Institute of Fashion Design and the Sri Lankan Gems and Jewelry Training and Research Institute for imparting training to Pakistani students.
Pakistan is also expected to increase the quota for rice exports to Sri Lanka from 6,000 to 10,000 tonnes and Sri Lanka will be increasing the export of tea and rubber to Pakistan.
It will be a big breakthrough for the two countries, if they succeed in including services and investments in the FTA.
