The Army on Sunday claimed that Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire on the de facto border in Kashmir on the occasion of 65th Republic Day by resorting to unprovoked firing for three hours.
Major General Anil Chauhan, General Officer Commanding of 19 Infantry Division, said Pakistan's objective was to disrupt the peace and tranquility along the Line of Control (LoC).
"Today morning at 6:15 a.m, when it was dark, from Pakistani side there was unprovoked firing in which they fired about three RPG (Rocket Propelled Grenade) rounds and small arms on to the Kaman post (in Uri sector) which is on the Indian side," said Chauhan.
Despite provocations, Indian troops did not retaliate in order to maintain peace.
"In spite of this continuous firing for three hours, we have not retaliated at all. The idea is that the peace and tranquility on the LoC should be maintained," added Chauhan.
So far, no casualty has been reported.
On January 17, India and Pakistan conducted a brigadier-level flag meeting near the border in Jammu and Kashmir, following a large number of ceasefire violations on the LoC. The meet had lasted for an hour-and-a-half at Chakan-Da-Bagh area of Poonch district.
Last year, tension flared along the border when five Indian soldiers were ambushed and killed. India blamed the attack on the Pakistan Army, which was denied by Pakistan.
