Paris: Cop attacked, Notre Dame area cordoned off

The French police is presently responding to an incident near the Notre Dame cathedral and has advised the public to stay away from the area.

According to initial reports, the police shot and injured a man who tried to attack an armed agent with a hammer.

Some Twitter users posted videos and images of the scene post the cordon.

"We're trapped in Notre-Dame de Paris, something is happening outside. Police sirens can be heard. They are not letting anyone in or out," said a Twitter user.
