Patiala House attack: Bassi assures action post investigation

Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi on Tuesday assured apt action into the unfortunate attack on journalists outside a Delhi court yesterday and said that the erring cops would not be spared.

"Investigation is on. And after identifying the people, action will be taken as per the law. O.P. Sharma said that he was injured. If I may use the term it was a little surcharged environment. Allegations and counter allegations have been levelled from both the sides. So, we have registered FIR in both episodes. If we find out that any officer has done any unworthiness, appropriate probe will be done," Bassi told the media here.

"Anyone found guilty under the FIR registered under Section 124 (A) will be investigated, which will include arrest. If any financial angle or terrorist link is found then investigation will be done under the Prevention Act," he added.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said action will be taken as per the law against those involved in yesterday's incident outside the Delhi court.

"Just had a word with the Delhi Police Commissioner. A case has been registered and investigation is underway," he told reporters on the sidelines of a function in the national capital.

Students and teachers of the JNU, as well as journalists, were yesterday assaulted, allegedly by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members outside the Patiala House court.

The students and the faculty members of the premier education institution were at the court to extend their support to Jawaharlal Nehru University students' union president Kanhaiya Kumar.

Kumar, who was arrested last week on charges of sedition, was yesterday sent to police custody for two more days.
