Peter Nevill admits being a back-up for Brad Haddin

Rookie Australian wicket-keeper Peter Nevill, who replaced Brad Haddin in the playing XI at Lord's, has said he was picked up as a 'back-up' option for the veteran.

It is assumed that Haddin, who had opted to stay out of the second Test due to family reasons, might have played his last Test, especially after Nevill grabbed the opportunity with both hands at the Mecca of Cricket.

The New South Wales (NSW) wicket-keeper said he was picked on this Ashes tour as Haddin's back up and he doesn't think anything has changed in that respect, Sydney Morning Herald reported.

It is believed that both Nevill and Haddin would be there in the playing XI in the tour game against Derbyshire that starts from Thursday.

However, Nevill said that it was not the first time that both will be playing together in a line up as they both grew in the same NSW line-up and Nevill was picked up as a specialist batsman.

Meanwhile, head coach Darren Lehmann has admitted that the selectors are already in a fix over the choice between the two wicket-keepers.

He had also heaped praise on Nevill, saying that the enthusiasm injected by Nevill in his record Ashes debut was an important factor in Australia squaring the series and seizing the entire momentum heading to Edgbaston.
