Professional golfer Phil Mickelson and two other accomplices have reportedly got embroiled in a controversy for possible insider trading of companies.
The FBI and SEC have begun investigations on Mickelson, billionaire Carl Icahn and Las Vegas bettor Billy Walters for trades based on private information on Icahn's companies.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the investigation agencies are currently probing whether Mickelson and Walters made trades based on private information Icahn provided about his company's own investments in public companies.
In particular, they seek to learn if Icahn gave tips to Walters, who in turn may have passed a tip on to Mickelson on at least one occasion, the report added.
The move comes in the wake of the US government beginning its onslaught on insider trading.
Icahn claims that he was unaware of an investigation and that he did not know who Mickelson was.
Meanwhile, Mickelson's lawyer said that his client was not under any investigation.
