Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced an initial cash compensation of Rs. 500,000 to the families of each of the 47 people who were killed in a plane crash near Abbottabad on Wednesday.

Geo News quoted a statement issued by airline spokesman Danyal Gilani, as saying, "On the directions of Chairman and CEO PIA an amount of Rs. 500,000 cash is being given to the next of kin of all the 47 persons who lost their lives in the tragic ATR crash, to meet funeral expenses."

Gilani said that the cash amount will be handed over personally by the PIA managers who have been asked to visit the residences of the deceased.

According to the statement, a comprehensive compensation would also be paid to each family as per the law.

Tickets as well as accommodation in Islamabad are being provided by the airline to the relatives of the deceased.

The airline will make arrangements for those family members wishing to travel to the crash site.
