There is speculation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi might announce a universal health insurance plan on this Independence Day, which will cover all the family members under a single premium insurance sum.

The proposed plan would not be consisting of any subsidy element in it but the policy has to be sold at subsidised premium rates by the insurers.

In his first Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Modi had announced the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna, in which more than 13 crore new accounts have been opened by the banks all over the country.
