PM Modi conveys best wishes to SAARC Nations' heads participating in World Cup

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday conveyed his best wishes to the heads of SAARC Nations participating in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

"Spoke to President @ashrafghani, PM Sheikh Hasina, PM Nawaz Sharif and President Sirisena. Conveyed my best wishes for the Cricket World Cup," tweeted Prime Minister Modi.

"5 SAARC Nations are playing and are excited about the World Cup. Am sure WC will celebrate sportsman spirit and will be a treat for sports lovers," he added.

"Cricket connects people in our region and promotes goodwill. Hope players from SAARC region play with passion and bring laurels to the region," he further added.

"Would be sending our new Foreign Secretary on a SAARC Yatra soon to further strengthen our ties," the Prime Minister said in a series of tweets.

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 will start on February 14 with New Zealand taking on Sri Lanka in a day match in Christchurch, and Australia going head to head with England in a day/night match in Melbourne. Melbourne will also host the final on March 29.

A total of 49 matches will be played across 14 venues, seven in New Zealand (Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton, Napier, Nelson and Wellington) and seven in Australia (Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney).
