Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama on Saturday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to China was vital to develop genuine friendship between the two nations.

"India and China have a close relationship which is very important. Once they develop genuine friendship on the basis of vision, many issues can be addressed including the Tibetan problem," said Lama.

Prime Minister Modi will visit China as part of his six-day, three nation tour. During his trip, he will be visiting Beijing, Shanghai and Xi'an, before departing for Mongolia.
