Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the 'Run for Unity' programme from Vijay Chowk early on Friday morning to mark the 139th birth anniversary of India's first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Flanked by hundreds of supporters, the Prime Minister joined the programme and commenced the 'Run for Unity'. Hundreds of citizens, including boxer Vijender Singh, were seen participating in the event.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister M.Venkaiah Naidu also participated.
Before flagging off the run, Prime Minister Modi also read out a unity pledge and asked citizens to adopt and abide by it.
The 139th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is being commemorated as 'Rashtriya Ekta Diwas' or National Unity Day across the nation.
