The Uttar Pradesh Police on Saturday stopped a Congress Party delegation from entering Dadri to express their solidarity with deceased Akhlaq's family.
The delegation was headed by Congress leaders R.P.N Singh, Rita Bahuguna and Madhusudan Mistry.
"This is unfortunate; we don't know why we have been refrained from entering the village. The Congress Party has no such history of instigating riots. In fact we were going after the situation in the village has returned to normalcy" Congress leader Madhusudan Mistry told ANI.
"The Akhilesh Government should have supported us, in fact they could have joined us in appealing people to peace but unfortunately they have stopped us," he added.
The delegation also staged a protest near the Delhi-Noida border after being stopped by the police.
