The Ministry of External Affairs(MEA) on Monday said that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a bilateral visit in 2016.

"He (Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan) invited Prime Minister Modi to visit Turkey next year on a bilateral visit. The Prime Minister reciprocated all the points that President Erdogan had made and also invited President Erdogan to visit India at a mutually convenient date," MEA official spokesperson Vikas Swarup told a press conference here.

"In addition to the new business opportunities created by the programmes such as clean India, digital India, skills India, Make in India, etc, Prime Minister also said that there is good possibility of cooperation with Turkey in the areas of civil nuclear cooperation, space and agricultural research," Swarup added.

Prime Minister Modi also discussed the possible threat posed by terrorism with President Erdogan and agreed to look at counter terrorism steps.

"He sought Turkish support for India's membership of the four export control regimes. United Nations Security Council reforms also came up for discussions as also did the threat posed by terrorism. In this regard both sides agreed to look at counter terrorism steps," Swarup said.
