Claiming that his interview given to a journalist was misquoted, former Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Tuesday denied that he said that he had failed to act against Congress leaders in the state. He further denied claims that he stopped enquiries against the accused in the irrigation scam and indicated that he will be issuing a detailed statement in this regard.
"I have given an interview to one journalist but I think I have been misquoted quite a lot. I will issue a detailed statement on it. But I think there is a lot of misquoting. I have not given anybody any clean chit I am very clear that due process of law will take place," he told ANI.
In an interview given to a leading newspaper, former Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan reportedly admitted that he failed to act against Congress leaders. The newspaper further quoted him saying that had he sent the top Maharashtra Congressmen to jail, the party would have been decimated.
The Chief Minister also reportedly said in the interview that he did not order an inquiry against the irrigation scam involving NCP leader Ajit Pawar to keep the Congress-NCP alliance intact.
