Proteas agree to play twilight Test against Australia in Adelaide

Ending weeks of speculation, South Africa have finally agreed to play the third and final Test of the series against Australia under lights in Adelaide in November.

Earlier, South African skipper AB de Villiers had voiced his concerns about the even contest between bat and ball in day-night Tests as Australia had already played one against New Zealand last year.

Confirming the news, Cricket South Africa chief executive Haroon Lorgat said they have agreed to play the day-night Test following careful consideration and engagement with their players.

Lorgat admitted that South African players were initially hesitant to play the day-night Test without previous experience but added that there was a newfound excitement for the novel match after working through all their concerns and possible options to prepare sufficiently, news.com.au reported.

South Africa are scheduled to land in Australia from mid-October and proceed immediately to Adelaide to play a two-day warm up game with a pink ball. It will be the first time they will be exposed to such conditions.

De Villiers' side could also play another two-day warm-up match under lights in order to further adjust to the pink ball.

Meanwhile, James Sutherland, the Chief Executive for Cricket Australia, welcomed the decision by the Cricket South Africa.
