Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday announced he would contest for another term in 2018.

TASS news agency quoted Putin, as saying, "Yes, I will run for the president of the Russian Federation."

He was speaking at a meeting with veterans and workers of the automobile plant GAZ.

The Russian President, whose current term is expiring on May 7, 2018, will participate in a presidential election campaign for the fourth time.

If Putin wins the election, he will be the president of Russia for six years, from 2018 to 2024.
