Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu on Sunday kept her nerve and came out with a brilliant performance to defeat China's rising star Sun Yu in a pulsating final and ultimately win the China Open Superseries tournament.
The seventh-seed, who reached the final after defeating Sung Ji Hyun of South Korea 11-21, 23-21, 21-19 in the semi-final clash, defeated Sun Yu 21-11, 17-12, 21-11 in a gruelling summit clash that lasted 69 minutes.
This was the third straight year that an Indian woman made the China Open singles final. Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal won the title in 2014 and finished runner-up in the 2015 edition of the $700,000 Super Series Premier event.
The Rio Olympics silver medallist had suffered second-round exits at the Denmark and French Open tournaments.
