Rail Board PRO Anil Saxena on Friday assured that Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu was monitoring the situation in the wake of the Dehradun-Varanasi Janta Express train derailment this morning.
"Train had to stop at Bachhrawan station but the driver overshot the signal, which resulted in derailment of the engine. Senior officials have reached the spot, Suresh Prabhu ji is also monitoring the situation," Saxena told ANI.
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha will visit the accident site, where six people are feared dead and over 40 injured.
"I will go to the accident site at 2 p.m., will give more information when I get there. As per my information, until now the death toll is six people," said Sinha.
Railway officials have rushed to the spot where the rescue and relief operations are under way.
The government has announced a compensation of Rs two lakh to the next of the kin and Rs 50,000 to those injured.
