Two British men have been arrested over an alleged bomb threat on a flight bound for Manchester.

Two RAF Typhoon fighters were scrambled as the flight from Pakistan, with 297 passengers on board, was diverted to Stansted airport in Essex after two men reportedly tried to enter the pilot's cabin.

According to the Mirror, with helicopters overhead, and the plane held a mile from the main terminal, armed officers stormed the Pakistan International Airlines jet and arrested two suspects.

The men, aged 30 and 41 and both British nationals, were put in paper suits with bags over their hands and arms.

Passengers on flight PK709 from Lahore said the men involved in a fight before trying to force their way into the locked cockpit, the report added.
