Following concerns of the safety of women travelling in trains, the Railways has announced that it is planning to form a separate wing for the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Thursday told the media that the Centre is planning to form the women's wing, which will be named the 'Mahila Vahini Squad', adding that he had written to the Finance Ministry for approval of the same.
Prabhu further stated that as per the plan, the RPF will require over 4,000 women constable and if approved, the force will initiate the process of recruitment soon.
Earlier in the day, the minister had flagged off a new Shatabdi Express service to Bhatinda from New Delhi.
