Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his bilateral talks held with Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, dubbing his approach to engage with the Islamic Republic as a 'statesman like approach'.

The minister shared his message via a series of tweets.

"India-Pak joint statement at Ufa shows signs of positive movement. The engagement at different levels will hopefully open new possibilities"

"Welcome the decision to expedite the trial pertaining to 2008 Mumbai attack including additional information like providing voice samples."

"Meeting of DG BSF and DG Pakistan Rangers will also help in stablising the situation at the India-Pakistan border."

"The joint statement is a step forward towards normalising bilateral relations, however the future outcome will be keenly watched."

"I congratulate the Prime Minister Shri @NarendraModi for his statesman like approach and engaging Pakistan on diplomatic level."

Prime Minister Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif, holding bilateral talks on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Ufa, Russia, agreed to cooperate with each other to eliminate terrorism from South Asia, noting their collective responsibility to ensure peace.

They also agreed for their National Security Advisors, Ajit Doval and Sartaj Aziz, to meet in New Delhi to discuss all matters relating to terrorism, also concurring on an early meeting between the DG BSF and DG Pakistan Rangers, followed by that of the DGMOs.
