The Ranchi Police have said they were probing the matter in connection with reports of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav's two aides serving him in jail.
Reports had, yesterday, surfaced that two aides of the former Bihar chief minister surrendered in an allegedly false case and were lodged in Ranchi's jail on the same day when Lalu was sent to prison in connection with the fodder scam case.
"It seems these are the two people who had surrendered in a case which was registered on December 23. We are probing the matter," RK Mehta, DSP Ranchi told ANI.
An FIR was filed against Mohan and Laxman in an alleged case of snatching and assaulting on December 23 in the Lower Bazar Police Station in Ranchi.
As per reports, the two deliberately committed the crime to get themselves imprisoned in the same jail as Lalu and serve him there.
Lalu was lodged in Ranchi's Birsa Munda Central Jail after a special CBI court sentenced him to 3.5 years of jail on January 6. He was sentenced in the case pertaining to embezzling of more than Rs 89 lakh from the Deoghar Treasury between 1991 and 1994.
