The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday reiterated that it is the responsibility of the Delhi Government to release money for the municipal corporation in the national capital, adding that the Central Government has nothing to do with it.
"It is the responsibility of the Delhi Government to give money to the MCD. The Central Government has nothing to with it. How is someone supposed to work without a salary? It is the responsibility of the Delhi Government to release the money on time," said BJP's Delhi unit president Satish Upadhyay.
Sanitation workers employed by the East Delhi Municipal Corporation had gone on strike after the body failed to pay their salaries for the third month running, citing paucity of funds.
The resultant mess had led to enormous piles of garbage littering East Delhi's streets.
However, the workers called off their strike earlier today.
