India's opening batsman Rohit Sharma made history by becoming the only batsman to score a double ton for the second time, as India set up Sri Lanka a massive target of 404/5 in their allotted 50 overs in the fourth ODI of the series.

Sharma was brought into the match to help him improve on his form, replacing Shikhar Dhawan in the dead rubber.

Sharma hit a massive 264 of 173 deliveries. His mountainous innings included 33 fours and nine sixes.

His double ton came off 151 deliveries and he went on playing till the end of the their innings, getting caught on the last ball. Former Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene caught him on the last ball of the final over off paceman Nuwan Kulasekara's delivery.

Sharma had earlier hit a double ton against Australia last year.

Sharma's opening partner Ajinkya Rahane managed to score 28 runs before he was trapped leg before wicket off Angelo Mathews' delivery.

India's star batsman Virat Kohli, who is filling in as skipper for Mahendra Singh Dhoni, scored 66 before he got run out. First down batsman Ambati Rayadu hit eight before he was bowled by Shaminda Eranga.

Suresh Raina also contribute 11 runs to the massive Indian score before he too was caught by Jayawardene off Mathews' delivery.

Sri Lanka will now go in to bat and chase India's 404/5 for victory in a dead rubber match.
