Cristiano Ronaldo's mother was reportedly stopped by Spanish civil guards last month at Madrid airport for carrying 55,000 euros in her handbag.

Dolores Aveiro was detained by the officials while waiting for a flight home to Portugal, the BBC reported.

According to a Spanish newspaper El Mundo, Aveiro couldn't explain to officials the reason for carrying so much cash and the money would be held by them until she pays a fine.

In a bid to prevent money laundering, Spanish rules prohibit an individual to not take out of the country more than 10,000 euros without declaring the transfer.
