Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has admitted that engine partner Renault is likely to quit Formula One if the sport doesn't pave way for an in-season engine development next year.

Renault has been struggling to keep pace with Mercedes and Ferrari and may not even catch them on account of the limited in-season development allowed this year.

Horner said that a failure to open it up would be 'almost waving goodbye to' Renault, the BBC reported.

Meanwhile, Renault Sport boss Cyril Abiteboul also echoed similar concerns, saying that there would not be a future for Renault in F1 if they do not have a competitive engine.
