The Pentagon has said that Russian warplanes have made many close passes in the recent weeks over a US destroyer sailing in the Black Sea.

According to BBC, Russian state media said that the USS Ross navy ship was acting "aggressive".

The US Department of Defence claimed that the ship was carrying out daily operation within international waters.

A video released by US Navy showed a Russian plane passing as close as 500 metres to the USS Ross.

Pentagon spokesman Col Steve Warren said that the Russian planes were not carrying weapons and the USS Ross maintained its course.
