The ruling Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP combine has gained majority in the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections in Punjab.
The SAD has captured about 90 per cent of the seats in both rural bodies in most of the districts in the region.
In Zila Parishad, ruling alliance has won 269 seats out of total 331 seats for 22 Zila Prishads, while Congress has won 23 seats and other parties has won 5 seats.
In Panchyat Samitis, ruling alliance has won 2,096 seats out of a total 2,732 seats, while Congress has won 442 seats and other parties and independents has won 152 seats.
