West Indies limited-overs specialist Darren Sammy believes that his embattled side can fight till the end despite their humiliating innings and 212-run defeat against Australia in the first Test in Hobart.
The 31-year-old all-rounder admitted that the West Indies had been going through a difficult phase, but called on the Jason Holder-led side to show more intent and perform much better than their previous game, News.com.au reported.
According to the former national skipper, the West Indies team was in transition and insisted that it would take time to get back to the formidable position they used to be in the longer format of the game.
Sammy revealed that current captain Holder was informed that the captaincy job would be tough, adding that the youngsters would improve with experience.
Sammy, who has retired from Tests after making his last appearance in 2013, will play in this season's Big Bash League for his side Hobart Hurricanes.
Reflecting on the same, the all-rounder said that he was fully committed to ODIs and T20 internationals for his nation and said that he hopes the passion for Test cricket would also return amongst the players after the Australian tour.
West Indies will next play the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne followed by the third Test in Sydney.
