Days after announcing his retirement from touring due to exhaustion, Grammy winning jazz singer Al Jarreau has died in a Los Angeles hospital.
A statement posted on Facebook said Jarreau "passed away this morning. He was in the hospital, kept comfortable by his wife, son, and a few of his family and friends. A small, private service is planned, for immediate family only. No public service is planned yet this time," reports The Guardian.
The statement on the Facebook page also called on the singer's admirers to donate for the Wisconsin School of Music.
Jarreau was hospitalized earlier in the week and was said to have been improving slowly but his official website gave the news of his death.
He was one of few artists to have won the Grammy in three categories - jazz, pop and R&B.
The 'In my music' singer won seven Grammys in a career spanning over 50 years.
