Sharif challenges accountability court's decision

Former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday challenged the accountability court's decision to not merge the three references filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the Islamabad High Court.

On November 8, the accountability court had rejected the application filed by Sharif for clubbing together the references against him and his family, which meant that the Sharif family will stand three separate trials.

According to the Dawn, Sharif's lawyer Azam Tar said the court took the decision in a hurry.

The appeal filed by Tar stated that the replies submitted to the high court were not taken under consideration by the court.

Last week, the ousted prime minister was indicted separately in each of the three references.

He had pleaded 'not guilty' to all the charges.

The Pakistan Supreme Court had asked the NAB to file references against the Sharif family in connection with their Avenfield and other properties on July 28 and directed the trial court to decide the references within six months.
