Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be handed over 'Champion of the Earth' award during the United Nations General Assembly session to be held in New York later this month.
According to the Daily Star, Hasina has been recognised by the United Nations for her contribution towards environmental preservation, Ehsan-ul-Karim, the prime minister's press secretary, said.
The Champions of the Earth Award is the United Nations highest environmental honour that recognises outstanding visionaries and leaders in the fields of policy, science, entrepreneurship, and civil society action.
The award is organised by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The award distinguishes men and women whose actions and leadership have made a positive impact on the environment.
