Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Friday said India needs a reliable face to lead in the future, suggesting that his party is wary of projecting Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the prime ministerial candidate of the opposition National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Calling on the people of the country to elect a strong government in 2014, Thackeray said that in his view there was no serious or reliable candidate for national leadership.
He further said that a clear face must emerge for people to elect.
With the BJP virtually deciding to project Modi as its prime ministerial nominee for the Lok Sabha elections, Thackeray's reluctance to endorse has come as a bit of a setback.
On the UPA, he said, it is difficult to make out who is running the country - the government or the media or NGOs or some other entity.
