Hotel receptionist Monde Mbolombo, the middleman in the Anni Dewani murder plot, has revealed that he decided to co-ordinate the kill plan despite knowing little about it.
According to News 24, the State's 14th witness said during cross-examination that despite not being told what his role would be, he took up the "burden" of making sure things went according to plan.
Mbolombo told the court that he was not in charge, adding that he wanted to do it from his side.
He was apparently curious to know more about the murder plan, for which he intended to attend a planning meeting with his accomplices on 13 November 2010, but couldn't do so as he had to work that day.
He told the court that post the meeting, his accomplices, Zola Tongo and Mziwamadoda Qwabe, did not tell him details of how and when Anni was to be killed or the time she and her husband Shrien would be hijacked.
He told Francois van Zyl, for Dewani, that all he knew was that Tongo was going to be let out of his car and the couple driven to an unknown location in Khayelitsha, the report said.
